Programs

All programs adhere to Licensed Child Care regulations, abide by Vancouver Coastal Health, Ministry of Children and Family Development, and work closely with Richmond Health Services.

Licensed School-Age Out of School Care (Kindergarten-Grade 7)

To be eligible for registration, children must attend Hamilton Elementary School.

Days of Care:

  • Monday-Friday from September to June during the School Year.
  • Full-time monthly fees include care for scheduled Pro-D Days, early dismissals and seasonal break daycamp.

Curriculum: Staff base the curriculum on the children’s expressed interest and developmental needs. Each day there are a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for children to explore and discover, based on Hamilton’s five programming principals: S.P.I.C.E.- Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, and Emotional.

Our programs aim to include topics and activities that address the diverse backgrounds and cultures of the children in our care, their families, and in our community. With emphasis placed on learning through play, children have the freedom and opportunity to develop their individuality in a safe and inclusive space.

Daily Schedule:

  • Attendance & group-up: Group discussion and check-in & review dayplan and offered activities
  • Activities: Physical play (inside and outside), free-play, themed activities & activities programed based on interest and development of children according to our S.P.I.C.E. model programming.
  • Snack: Children have the opportunity to eat their own packed snacks from home, or can receive a healthy snack between 3:00-5:00 pm.

Age Guidelines: Kindergarten to Grade 7. Children are placed in the program that best suits their age as well as their social development. The Director has the right to move the child up or down, based on what is best for the programs as a whole.

School Year 2022-2023 – Out of School Care (OSC) Programs:

After School Care:

Monday-Friday = $438.80/month

  • Kindergarten – Grade 1, offered in Multi-Purpose Room 1
  • Grades 1-3, offered in Multi-Purpose Room 2
  • Grades 4-7, offered in Multi-Purpose Room 3 & Portable
  • Healthy daily snack included in monthly fee
  • Seasonal Break care days, scheduled Pro-D Days, scheduled Early Dismissal included in monthly fee

Morning Care:

Monday-Friday = $212.25/month

  • Kindergarten- Grade 7, offered in Multi-Purpose Room 2
  • Healthy breakfast included in monthly fee
  • Seasonal Break care days not included in monthly fee

Full-time Care:

Monday-Friday Morning Care & After School Care = $479.85/month

  • Healthy breakfast & afternoon snack included in monthly fee
  • Seasonal Break care days, scheduled Pro-D Days, scheduled Early Dismissal included in monthly fee

Part-time Care: Part-time registration is permitted only if space is available.
Full-time registration is prioritized.

Licensed Preschool (3-5 years)

Days of Care:

  • School Year program offered second week of September – mid June.
  • Program includes two week gradual entry period in September.
  • Each preschool program closes for two Professional Days, Winter Break, Spring Break, Summer, and Statutory Holidays.

Curriculum: Staff base curriculum on the children’s expressed interests and developmental needs, and is planned on a week-to-week and/or month-to-month basis. Each and every day there are a variety of indoor activities available for the children to explore and investigate – including ones that address the diverse backgrounds of the children in our care, their families, and our community. Emphasis is placed on learning through play, children have the freedom and opportunity to engage in experiences that are enriching, interesting, and fun. Our program plays outside everyday rain, snow, or shine.

Daily Schedule:

  • Free play time: Tabletop activities and centers are open.
  • Circle time: Review and learn about the calendar, weather, attendance, emotions, and project discussion. Children can share and discuss discoveries and interests.
  • Free play/Snack time: Children are free to choose from the various play centers, dramatic play, exploration, playdough, science, imagination, toys, puzzles, art, building and books, and can choose to eat their snack from home. Snack is not provided by our programs.
  • Clean Up Time
  • Gym Time: Takes place one of our multipurpose rooms for the children to engage with multi-sport equipment and group game activities. Staff will demonstrate age appropriate activities with many physical skills such as jumping, throwing, catching, skipping, hopping, and running games to help the children strengthen their physical literacy.
  • End of day Circle Time: Stories, songs, games, visuals (finger play puppets, art and sensory activities).

What is Physical Literacy?:

​Who is it for?
Everyone benefits from physical literacy! The City of Richmond is targeting 2 to 12 year of age as these ages are ideal for children to develop fundamental movement skills.

​Why is it important?
A variety of acquired movement skills lead to an increase in confidence, participation, enjoyment and opportunities to connect and socialize. This is the foundation for an active life.

Age Guidelines: Children must be 3 years of age by Dec. 31 of the registered school year. Children must be 3 years of age by December 31, 2020 to be eligible for the 2020-2021 School year.

Programs:

All Preschool programs offered in Multi-Purpose Room 1.

Instructor to children ratio is 1:10. Dependent on registration, class sizes may be limited to 10 students with one Instructor. Class size has maximum of 20 students.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday AM class: 8:30 -11:30 am = $253.95/month
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday PM class: 12:00 – 2:30 pm = $211.65/month
  • Tuesday, Thursday AM class: 8:30 – 11:00 am = $152.65/month
  • Tuesday, Thursday 4 hour class: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm = $244.20/month

Registration Info

To register:

  1. Contact our Director of Child Care for available spaces and more program information.
  2. Ensure your Richmond registration account is valid and up to date.

  4. Complete and return our registration forms to the Director by email or schedule an in-person meeting with the Director.
  5. Registration forms must be completed and submitted two-weeks prior to requested start date.
  6. Once registration forms have been received and reviewed, families will be contacted to confirm registration and to complete payment of the the registration fee and month fee.

Staff

Our Child Care Staff have:

• Minimum of 20 hours training, experience with Licensed Child Care

• Valid First Aid, CPR certification

• Certified Foodsafe Level 1

• Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
